History

The Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology was established by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia in 2006 as a result of the merger of the Institutes of Zoology and Hydroecology and Fishology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia and is the successor of these institutes. According to the same decision of the government and the charters of the institutes, each of the institutes is the main link of the Center carrying out basic scientific research activities.

The Institute of Zoology is the leading organization of the republic in the field of zoological science.

The Institute of Hydroecology and Ichology is the only specialized organization in Armenia and the South Caucasus for the study of limnosystems.
